History

Individuals in the nursing home industry are invited to participate on one or more coalition committees.

Summer 2005

Five representatives from the state of Ohio attended the St. Louis Accord and developed an action plan to move culture change throughout Ohio.

Fall 2005

The Ohio Person-Centered Care Coalition was named and established by the Quality Improvement Organization, two trade associations, the Department of Aging Ombudsman, the Department of Health Technical Assistance Program, the Department of Job and Family Services, the Health Policy Institute, and a few providers, including Eliza Jennings, Avon Oaks, Westminster-Thurber, and the Healthcare Center at the Renaissance

Winter 2005-2006

Mission and vision were established. The coalition does not subscribe to a specific model of person-centered care, but seeks to promote the ideals of the culture change movement throughout the state of Ohio. A steering committee and sub-committees were also formed.

February 2, 2006:

The coalition's first annual conference: With Person-Centered Care, Everyone Wins."

Spring 2006

Scripps Gerontology begins nursing home surveys that include voluntary questions about culture change.

Summer 2006

The coalition develops a brochure and event display, which is taken to Ohio trade shows to teach nursing homes about culture change.

Winter 2006-2007

Members of the coalition are asked to meet with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate in development of a training video on clinical aspects of person-centered care in Baltimore on February 5, 2007. Individuals in the nursing home industry, including surveyors, will be able to view this training video online.

March 20, 2007:

The coalition's second annual conference: "Roadmap for Change: A Practical Guide for Caring in a New Way."
